Original 1937 Richter Extra Catalogue

Original Richter Extra Catalogue from 1937 (German Language Edition)

Found at the factory in immaculate condition, this German language catalogue gives an insight into the range and scope of the Richter product range 18 years after the company was first established.

The first half of the catalogue covers drill tooling and the range available bears more than a passing resemblance to that found in a present day FAMAG catalogue. It is also interesting to note that alongside the familiar ‘Douglas’ and ‘Irwin’ pattern augers is a range of ‘Richter’ pattern gimlet augers. If anyone has any further information about this design please get in touch.

On page 33 you will find “Tischler stechbeitel mit fasette in favorit heft” (Carpenters chisels with bevels and ‘favourite’ handle) which are the predecessor of the current Narex 8105 range. If it aint broke....!

Half of Page 51 is devoted to honing and seems to advocate grinding a flat 20 degree bevel and then honing a much steeper 35 degree secondary bevel on the laminated plane iron shown in the diagram.

There is also a picture of a convex bevel in the diagram and the corresponding text reads:

“ein eisen welches die flache rund geschliffen hat, gibt schlechte leistung”

which roughly translates to:

“an iron which has the flat honed round gives poor performance.”
